National Grid (NG) operates the transmission network of high voltage cables in the U.K. It was privatized during the Conservative governments in the 1990s. It also operates a gas transmission network in the U.K., with one of the ten largest LNG depots in the world just outside London.
NG expanded in the 2000s by buying electric utilities in the U.S. Northeast and operates some of the largest electric power companies in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York state, including Niagara Mohawk.
