Delta has an advantage no other US carrier has: it owns a refinery. The company calls this integrated fuel strategy a unique differentiator, because the refinery partially offsets higher crack spreads. Any easing in crude flows almost straight to the bottom line. Delta’s third-quarter guidance calls for an operating margin of 11% to 13%, assuming fuel at about US$3.15 a gallon.
